Is spray cork worth it?
A balanced look at whether spray cork justifies its price for UK homeowners, including who it suits and who should consider alternatives.
Last updated

"Worth it" depends on what you are buying it for. As a cosmetic refresh it is expensive. As a combined refresh, crack-bridging and modest thermal upgrade on a difficult wall, the maths look different.
When it tends to be worth it

Spray cork makes most sense where the wall has an existing problem that a coat of masonry paint will not solve: fine cracking, a tired pebbledash finish, or a solid wall that needs to stay breathable.
- Tired pebbledash you do not want to remove
- Solid-wall properties needing a breathable finish
- Walls with fine, stable hairline cracking
- Homeowners who want the specific matte texture
When it is hard to justify

If the wall is sound and you simply want a new colour, masonry paint or a render refresh will cost far less. Spray cork is also not a substitute for proper external wall insulation if your goal is a measurable reduction in heat loss.
Be careful with payback claims

Be sceptical of any quote that promises a specific percentage saving on your energy bills. The thermal contribution of a coating a few millimetres thick is real but modest, and depends on your existing wall construction.
Common questions
Will spray cork cut my heating bills?+
It may make a modest difference, particularly on cold solid walls, but it is not equivalent to certified external wall insulation. Treat precise savings claims with caution.
Does it add value to a property?+
A well-finished exterior helps presentation, but there is no reliable published evidence that spray cork specifically adds a set percentage to UK property values.
